TIC Description

Definition

M

“Drift" is the process by which a carrier (vessel) has stopped its engine but is still underway (i.e. not at anchor, or alongside, or aground) in order to maintain an intermediate waiting position on its way to the port (terminal) or after departure from the port (terminal).

Further Detail

O

Drift is a sub-process of the subject (process) CarrierVisit. It may occur during Carriervisit.Arrival or Carriervisit.Departure, or independent from both.

The drift “start” event occurs when the vessel’s engine is stopped while reaching the drifting position and is not making way through the water anymore (i.e. only drifting and moving with current).

drift “end” event occurs when the vessel’s engine is started in order to leave the drifting position permanently (i.e. vessel underway, making way through the water) to proceed to its next destination (e.g. pilot boarding ground, anchorage etc.).
