TIC Description

Definition

“Drift" is the process by which a carrier (vessel) is stopping has stopped its engine and not making way through the water but is still underway (i.e. not at anchor, or alongside, or aground) in order to maintain an intermediate waiting position on its way to the port (terminal) or after departure from the port (terminal).

Further Detail

O

Drifting is a sub-process of CarrierVisit.Arrival or CarrierVisit.Departure process.

The Anchorage drift “start” event occurs when the vessel “Let go” (drops) the anchor (arrival to anchorage area). This may be in the approach towards the port or after leaving that port, usually at a designated anchorage area in the seaside vicinity of the port or river passage.
Anchorage vessel’s engine is stopped while reaching the drifting position and is not making way through the water anymore (i.e. only drifting and moving with current).

drift “end” event occurs when the vessel’s anchor heaved in and nested (departure from anchorage)engine is started in order to leave the drifting position permanently (i.e. vessel underway, making way through the water) to proceed to its next destination.
