TIC Description

Definition

M

The reference point is a characteristic point on a subject (ground slot, bollard, CHE, container, etc) that will act as an overall reference for positioning and specification of the subject. It is mandatory for every subject and is defined according to the type of subject.

TIC Description

Further Detail

O

The concept “Reference point” is complementary to the observed properties “coordinate” and “location”.

Yard related reference points (non-moving objects)

  • large objects / areas / lanes / tracks
(e.g. buildings, terminal, container stacks, wharf, gate lanes, roads, parking area)
The reference point is the most Northern point of the subject. In case multiple points could be considered ‘the most Northern point’, the most Northern point on the West side is the reference point. If the subject possesses a height dimension, the reference point is where the most northern point of the subject intersects with the ground level. The definition similarly applies for lanes & tracks and their respective interconnected areas. (see drawing)

  • small objects
(e.g. lightpoles, antennas, bollards, gate kiosks)
For small subjects, where a “nothern direction” is not reasonable, the geometric centerpoint of the subject may be used as a position reference point. If the subject possesses a height dimension, the reference point is located at the (projected) ground level of the subject.

Equipment related reference points (moving objects)

  • All equipment with three or more wheels
    (e.g. RTG, SC, AGV)
The geometrical centre measured from the centre of the outmost corner wheels.

  • Mobile Harbour Crane
At the ground level of the centre of the rotating axis.

  • Trailer / MAFI
At the ground level of the centre of the steel structure. If there are more trailers, each trailer has its own reference point (e.g. multi-trailer).

  • Equipment without wheels (e.g. cassette)
The geometrical centre of the main structure defines the reference point.

  • ISO container reference point
The geometrical centre between the bottom end corner castings of the container.

  • Person-related reference point
The centrepoint of a persons body, located at the projected ground level.

Example in the context of the grammar

M

The reference point of the container stack is located at position 40°12.22' N & 075°00.25' W, which is its most nothern point.
stack_reference_point.referencepoint.coordinate.wgs84: +4012.22 -07500.25

The reference point of an RTG (width= 5m; length=15m at outmost corner wheels) is located in the geometrical centre of the outmost corner wheels, which is half of the width and length of the RTG.
RTG_reference_point.referencepoint.logical: 2.5m 7.5m
