Definition

PreparationAtArrival is a process by which a subject (usually a terminal) facilitates the Carrier the access to the berth or transferpoint or landside, and prepare the terminal for the start of cargo operations.

Further Detail

O

PreparationAtArrival is a process that belongs TerminalOperations and is related to every arrival of any carriervisit process. ie CHE Boom up, drive (gantry), boom down, warm up, etc. Also include the necessary activities (cycles) to allow the cargo operation. ie twistlocks boxes, hatch covers, lashing gage, drive (gantry) boom down, etc.

PreparationAtArrivalis considered “active” if the resources are in place and ready to perform the activity related (boom up, boom down, loading, unloading, driving).

During the TerminalOperations the process could be inactive because the resources are not in place (e.g. suspension of operations due to high wind, resources not available).

carriervisit.terminaloperations.preparationatarrival is a subprocess of TerminalOperations process:

  • carriervisit.terminaloperations.preparationatarrival  “start” event is when an assigned CHE executes the first activity related to a specific carrier visit for initiating the preparationatarrival process

  • carriervisit.terminaloperations.preparationatarrival  “end” event is when the first cargo move is completed by an any assigned CHE related to a specific carrier visit closing the preparationatarrival process and starting the cargooperations process.

Preparation at arrival and closing at departure: Preparation and closing are necessary to execute the terminal operation; therefore are included within terminal operations. Preparation and closing could be active before/after as they are preparatory/finalizing works. It is a preparatory/finalizing work before/after the terminal operations process start/ends and can be considered “active”. So preparation will always “start” before the terminal operations “start” and the closing will always “end” after terminal operations “end” because are activities that needs to be done before and after the terminal operations.

Considerations per Carrier type:

Vessel:

  • carriervisit.terminaloperations.preparationatarrival.start is when an assigned CHE executes the first activity related to a specific vessel visit to initiate the preparationatarrival process (drive, boom up, boom down, loading, unloading)

  • carriervisit.terminaloperations.preparationatarrival.end is when the first container move is completed by an assigned CHE related to a specific vessel visit (firstcargomove) closing the preparationatarrival process and starting the cargooperations process.

Truck:

  • carriervisit.terminaloperations.preparationatarrival.start is when an assigned CHE executes the first activity related to a specific truck visit to initiate the preparationatarrival process (RTG or SC or ECH drive; make safe and available a transfer zone). Because the portgate and terminalgate process belongs to the arrival process, and the terminaloperations start in the transferzone, normally the this process is not necessary for trucks.

  • carriervisit.terminaloperations.preparationatarrival.end is when the first container move is completed by an assigned CHE related to a specific truck visit (firstcargomove) closing the preparationatarrival process and starting the cargooperations process.

Rail:

  • carriervisit.terminaloperations.preparationatarrival.start is when an assigned CHE executes the first activity related to a specific rail visit to initiate the preparationatarrival process (drive, open gates, active OCR portal, locomotive). The pins unlock is consider par of the lashing.

  • carriervisit.terminaloperations.preparationatarrival.end is when the first container move is completed by an assigned CHE related to a specific rail visit (firstcargomove) closing the preparationatarrival process and starting the cargooperations process.
