TIC Description

Definition

M

A crane track is a linear infrastructure element consisting of two or more or more parallel running rails installed to support the motion (gantry) of cranes such as STS, RMGs, or ASCs within a terminal usually in dedicated areas.

Further detail

O

The setup is similar to that of https://tic40.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/createpage.action?spaceKey=REV&title=Train%20Tracks. In most cases, crane rails can be treated similarly as railway rails. While railway rails have national standards that define a fixed gauge for the steel rails, the variety of crane rail types and gauges requires a crane-specific definition.
Please note that a big gauge in curved terminals can lead to a very different geometry and arc lengths of each single crane rail.
Please note that some terminals may have curved crane rails allowing STS cranes to gantry travel and operate on adjacent berths. With curved rails, different geometry and arc lengths of each single crane rail are used. Similarly such curved rails can be used for RMG / ASC in a railyard.
Therefore, we propose that for larger crane structures, e.g., RMGs spanning a whole railyard, the crane rails should be modeled as separate entities.
